1. 360° Grain-Adaptive Cutting: The entire blade indexing mechanism can be rotated 360 degrees within its mounting points. This allows the woodworker to always cut with the grain rather than against it, completely avoiding grain tear-out regardless of the direction you are pushing or pulling the plane.
2. Three Blade Mounting Locations: Unlike traditional router planes with a fixed central blade position, the HD-39 allows you to move the cutter to the front or sides of the heavy die-steel sole. This enables flush-trimming right up against closed corners, blind mortises, or the internal edges of a frame.
3. Zero-Slop Micro-Depth Adjustments: Machined to extremely tight industrial tolerances, the thumbwheel adjustment system is fluid and tight, completely eliminating back-lash or cutter slip when locking in your exact depth of cut.
4. Detachable Multi-Directional Fence: Supported by a dedicated four-direction optional guide fence. When installed, it allows you to reference straight or curved workpiece edges perfectly, keeping your groove cuts parallel to the board edge without needing a separate straightedge jig.

Does it have an adjustable handle layout?
Yes. To accommodate different grip preferences and various mounting orientations of the blade, the handle positions on the HD39 are fully adjustable. This allows you to maintain optimal balance, downward pressure, and mechanical leverage regardless of how the plane is configured.
What is "Grain-Adaptive Cutting" and how do I use it?
When cleaning the bottom of a groove, changing grain directions can cause wood to tear out. Because the entire blade housing on the HD39 rotates 360°, you can change the angle of your approach on the fly. This lets you always cut with the grain rather than forcing the tool against it, resulting in a significantly cleaner surface finish.
What types of blades are included in the package?
The HD39 typically ships with two premium cutters:

Can I use blades from other brands (like Veritas or Lie-Nielsen)
in the HD39?
No. Due to the unique 360° rotating modular mounting assembly, the HD39 uses a proprietary shaft geometry. Third-party replacement blades will not fit the mounting configuration.
How easy is it to remove the blade for sharpening?
Very straightforward. Unlike vintage tools where you must fiddle with the entire height-adjustment post, the cutters on modern HONGDUI planes separate efficiently. You can easily detach the cutting head from the shaft assembly, making it far simpler to lock into a honing guide (like the HONGDUI HD29) to achieve a razor-sharp edge.
How precise is the depth adjustment mechanism?
The HD39 utilizes a machined stainless steel lead screw paired with a knurled thumbwheel precision adjustment mechanism. It operates smoothly, allowing you to easily dial in micro-shavings measured in fractions of a millimeter for absolute depth control.
Does the height adjustment suffer from backlash or "slop"?
HONGDUI prioritizes low-backlash engineering across their entire joinery line. The thumbwheel and guide-post tolerances are machined tightly to virtually eliminate the annoying "dead zones" common in older threaded-post designs, meaning the blade responds almost instantly when you reverse direction.
